The Association for Food Illness Accountability was formed in 2009 to answer this basic question.
Why is the United States using ten-year-old estimates rather than documented cases to develop food safety strategies and legislation?
We believe this gap – in the tens of millions of cases – is key to defining foodborne illness. It is critical to our nation’s confidence in our ability to feed ourselves. With knowledge we can legislate effectively, be it oversight of the small organic farmer, the industrial food processing plant or the local restaurant, to reduce the incidence of food illness. Our intention is to strengthen America’s defense against foodborne illness.
